We are a recreational Dutch folkdancegroup with an international program. We
have groups for children, teenagers and adults. Our name is based on an american
square dance.
We occasionally perform in schools and homes for the elderly. Our costumes,
mostly selfmade, try to give an impression of the costumes of the country
whose dance we are showing. For the Dutch dances we wear several traditional Dutch
costumes. Click here for an explanation. Our usual
program contain
s dances from the Netherlands
(click here for a dance description),
Ukraïne, Poland, Italy, Turkey, Israel, United States, Sweden, Romania, Bulgaria
and many others.
Almere is a city with more than 170.000 inhabitants and a very short history.
The first people came in 1976. Ten years earlier the ground it was build on was
still the bottom of the sea. We live three meters below sealevel.
Of course Almere has no traditional costume. That's why we chose to wear
costumes from all over the Netherlands: Farmers costumes from Zeeland, Brabant,
Friesland and Staphorst; Fishercostumes from Scheveningen, Spakenburg, Urk and
Volendam. Our Dutch program contains two choreographies, made by our teacher
and various old and young Dutch dances.
No, we do not dance on wooden shoes. Those are just for work.
